Candles? For summer? Well, I can understand why you might put them on hiatus. I’ve got loads of spicy, woodsy or vanilla-type scents that are really only appropriate for wintry days when I want to snuggle up under a blankie.
But candles that aren’t out of place on a hot summer’s night DO exist, and Fresh has just come out with two of them. (Rather fittingly, since their name is “Fresh” and all.)
Sugar Lemon, my favourite, is the candle version of the very popular Sugar Lemon Eau de Parfum. It’s supposed to be reminiscent of lemons sprinkled with sugar—and seriously, who wouldn’t want their home to smell like that? The warmth of the sugar makes it cozy, while the tartness of the lemon keeps things really clean (in case you want to convey the impression that yes, you did scrub the floors… even if you didn’t).
Hesperides Grapefruit is an even fresher composition (and there’s an Eau de Parfum to go with that, too). The notes include pink grapefruit, lemon, bergamot, tangerine and orange, so if you’re a real citrus lover, you’ll go gaga for it. I can’t think of a more universally pleasing fragrance.
All Fresh candles have a burning time of 50 hours, and feature natural extracts and lead-free wicks. Have you checked these out yet?
